The much anticipated Portuguese ”Digital Nomad Visa” and ”Job Seekers Visa” have now been officially scheduled for launch on the 30th of October, 2022.
Regulatory Decree no. 4/2022 of 30 September, which amends the Legal Regime for the Entry, Stay, Exit and Expulsion of Foreign Citizens in Portuguese territory, will be published, thus materializing the changes that had already been brought with the previous amendment to the Foreigners’ Act on August 25th of this year.
As far as the new ”Digital Nomad Visa” and ”Job Seekers Visa” are concerned, special reference should be made to the following:
Visa for Job Search (Job Seekers)
Enables its holder to enter and remain in Portuguese territory for a period of 120 days, extendable for a further 60 days, to seek employment and subsequently apply for a residence permit. We await further detail pertaining to this visa before publishing.
Residence visa for remote workers (Digital Nomads)
Allows both employed workers and independent professionals whose activity is exercised remotely, to travel to Portugal in order to obtain a temporary residence permit.
For Digital Nomads, it will be necessary to:
- prove the employment relationship or the supplying of services.
- provide bank statements proving that their average monthly remuneration for the last three months is equivalent to or greater than four months of Portuguese minimum wage.
- certify their fiscal residence.
Also eagerly awaited is the following change to the Family Reunification regulations
Until now, the visa applicant’s family members could only start their application process when the main visa applicant was already in possession of his/her Residence Permit. From now on, residence visas for family members may be requested simultaneously, allowing them to accompany the main visa applicant to the competent consular post and have their applications assessed at the same time as the main applicant. In principle, this will allow for all applicants to receive their Residency Permits simultaneously.
